Rose Garbacik and Dawn Gonzales selected for Extraordinary Caregiver Recognition Program Rose Garbacik, Team Leader for our IRA at 65 Knickerbocker Road, and Dawn Gonzales, Team Leader for our IRA at 1930 Westfall Road, were nominated by Jon Rose, Residential Director, and selected by the OMRDD for the Extraordinary Caregiver Recognition Program. In Jon’s nomination of Rose, he said the following, “(She) is highly flexible and is always willing to respond to the needs of individuals...takes a leadership role with less seasoned staff providing guidance, training and support…(she) volunteered for the Special Olympics...in Binghamton…(was) away from her family for three nights and four days...when it became evident...our individuals may not be able to attend (otherwise)...Rose advocated strongly for several in her IRA to open bank accounts and take ownership for their finances. Has organized...summer camps and vacations…(to) have some kind of annual vacation...Rose leads by example and inspires those she supervises…” In Jon’s nomination of Dawn, the following was said, “(She) works in a house with ten diverse and often challenging individuals. When her fellow manager resigned his post, Dawn scheduled herself for 12 hour days...to ensure that the house had adequate supervision and the individuals who resided there were able to access the community...Once again, she put the needs of the individuals before herself and her family. Dawn is full of innovative stimulating...ideas that enrich the lives of our consumers and provide enjoyable ways for them to grow and learn...Dawn ensures that all of our individuals have the opportunity to participate in events and activities that are meaningful to them.” The program is sponsored by the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University who have designed a comprehensive education and training program with subjects that include family relationships, health, finance, diversity, and multi-cultural issues. The program will take place on October 14th and 15th at St. Anne Church on Mount Hope Avenue. Upon completion of the 12 hours of training, attendees will awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the Center for Aging Policy Research, School of Social Welfare, Stony Brook University. Congratulations, Rose and Dawn! We are very proud of you. |
